Network and System Monitoring

In this day and age the users of our computing environment are expecting seamless connectivity to their network, servers, and applications. If an incident occurs and a system begins having difficulties users expect swift turn around times to resolve the difficulties.

Unless an administrator has some insight into the network it is a time consuming process to resolve many of the technical glitches that can occur. Implementing a network monitoring solution offers a proactive approach to managing your IT Infrastructure.

What is VoIP?

VoIP or Voice over IP is a major buzzword these days. VoIP, in it's simplest explanation, is the routing of voice conversations over the Internet or through any other IP-based network. The protocols which are used to carry voice signals over the IP network are commonly referred to as Voice over IP.

There are two types of Public Switched Telephone Networks (PSTN) to VoIP services. DID (Direct Inward Dialing) and access numbers. The DID connects the caller directly to the VoIP user, while access numbers require the caller to input the extension number of the VoIP user.

Access numbers are usually charged as a local call to the caller and free to the VoIP user while DID usually has a monthly fee. DIDs that are free to the VoIP user but chargeable to the caller also exist.

Why Consider a Print Solution?

Despite widespread predictions of the imminent emergence of a paperless workplace, reality has proven far different. While it's true that new technologies have transformed how we obtain, share and store information, the proliferation of e-mail communication and almost universal access to the Internet have only resulted in more document production, not less.

There is growing awareness of the serious financial and productivity consequences of an unmanaged print environment. While many organizations commit vast resources to proactively optimize and manage computing-related elements of their information infrastructure, they often allow document imaging, production, sharing and storage processes and assets to operate virtually unmanaged, adversely impacting priorities such as revenue generation, costs, and productivity.

To learn more about this topic, come and join us on Wednesday, April 4th for our HP Lunch & Learn. (see Events Schedule in right column.)
What is Information Security?

Information security describes all measures taken to prevent unauthorized use of this data. This unauthorized use can include the intentional or unintentional disclosure, alteration, substitution, or destruction of the data.

Information Security includes protecting more than just the systems holding the data.  It includes establishing the organization's policies and procedures on IT Systems Security, Internet Security, Access Control, Enterprise Data Security, and much, much more.  It aims to safeguard information and information systems from anyone including employees, consultants, suppliers, customers and the well advertised threat of hackers.

Companies revolve around the handling of data in some manner. Personal staff details, client lists, salaries, bank account details, marketing and sales information are commonly stored on file-shares and in databases. This information is critical to running your business as well as developing strategies to protect it.

Data Security Conference
On February 21st, 2007 we had great pleasure holding our first quarterly conference with the topic Data Security looked upon from various angles:

Regulatory Frameworks (MTC),
Computer Crimes (FBI), Infrastructure of Networks and Access Control (HP),
VoIP - Transmission of Voice (Avaya).

Nearly 70 guests joined us for this strictly informal event and enjoyed the professional presentations as well as the good food. Everyone had the chance to direct questions to our experts from MTC and to some of our sponsors and partners, such as HP, Avaya, Synnex, Symantec, Microsoft and Cisco.

We want to thank everybody for your support!  Without your commitment this conference would not have been such a great success and so much fun! Thank you very much!

Conference voices:

" I just wanted to let you know how much I enjoyed the seminar last Wednesday. I was able to take a lot of very useful information back with me. (...) I was very impressed. I find most of the seminars I am asked to attend to be little more than a sales pitch. I found this event to be quite different with a clear focus on the issues.
Thank you again for the invitation and I look forward to a long and productive relationship with MTC."

Tim Dyer,
Growth Industries, Inc.

"I want to thank you and MTC for hosting the event yesterday.  It was one if not the best Conferences I have been to yet.  The information was and is most helpful."
